New CDC Dog Import Rules (Effective August 1, 2024)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its regulations for dogs entering the United States. These rules help protect public health by preventing the reintroduction of canine rabies.

Key Requirements:

• All dogs must have a completed CDC Dog Import Form submitted online before travel.
• Dogs from high-risk rabies countries must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate and are only allowed entry through a CDC-approved port of entry facility, where additional health screenings may be required.
• Minimum age: six months. Dogs must be microchipped and appear healthy.
• Entry requirements vary by country of origin and may include quarantine.
