Entry Requirements & Travel Advice
-
Microchip Identification:
Pets must be microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit microchip before receiving the rabies vaccination. The chip number must appear on all official documents. -
Rabies Vaccination:
Your pet must be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before entering Finland. The vaccination must be administered after the microchip is implanted and be valid on the date of travel. -
EU Health Certificate:
A USDA-accredited veterinarian must complete an EU Animal Health Certificate, which must then be endorsed by the USDA within 10 days of arrival in Finland. Our pet documentation specialists can assist in ensuring all details meet EU standards. -
Tapeworm Treatment (Echinococcus):
A tapeworm treatment is mandatory for dogs traveling to Finland. It must be administered by a licensed veterinarian 1–5 days before entry. The treatment must be recorded on the health certificate. -
Pet Age & Breed Restrictions:
Pets must be at least 12 weeks old at the time of rabies vaccination. While Finland does not ban specific breeds, all dogs must comply with behavioral and safety regulations. -
Approved Entry Points:
Pets must enter Finland through designated points of entry, such as Helsinki (HEL). Ensure your flight route complies with these requirements. For assistance with logistics, contact our pet travel coordinators. -
Limit on Number of Pets:
Travelers may bring up to five pets for non-commercial purposes. Pets exceeding this limit must meet commercial import conditions. Learn more via the Finnish Food Authority.
Selecting the Right Travel Crate
Finland-bound pets must travel in IATA-compliant crates that ensure safety and comfort throughout the journey. The crate must be sturdy, ventilated, and large enough for your pet to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably.
- Size: Measure your pet carefully and choose the correct crate size.
- Ventilation: Crates should provide airflow on at least three sides.
- Security: Ensure metal doors and locking mechanisms meet airline requirements.
